Name Changes
Whether you have gone through a divorce and are looking to resume your maiden name or are looking to change your name entirely, the talented lawyers of Notaro & Associates P.C. are able to help you through the name change procedure. Many parties want to legally resume their maiden name once they are divorced. Whether you are going through divorce proceedings or are already divorced, our attorneys can facilitate a name change for you. Another common reason to change a last name is that of recently adopted individuals looking to assume the legal name of their new adopted parents. Our office can assist you with this type of name change as well as the adoption. Pennsylvania law allows an individual the right to legally change their name for almost any reason, including but not limited to professional reasons, taste reasons, sexual reassignment, same sex, and transgender reasons, and reasons relating to nothing more than the happiness of the individual with their current legal name. As long as the person has a good reason for changing their name, AND the court does not find that the individual is changing their name to defraud others, the petition will often be granted. There are requirements other than filing paperwork with the courts, such as notifying and publishing the intended name change in at least two widely circulated newspapers. We know and understand from experience that the process can be complicated. However, the lawyers of Notaro & Associates, P.C. are experienced in name changes for a variety of reasons and can make it a straightforward process.
